ISAIAH 30:1-18

“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord,
“who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit,
    that they may add sin to sin;
²who set out to go down to Egypt,
    without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
    and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
³Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame,
    and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.
⁴For though his officials are at Zoan
    and his envoys reach Hanes,
⁵everyone comes to shame
    through a people that cannot profit them,
that brings neither help nor profit,
    but shame and disgrace.”

⁶An oracle on the beasts of the Negeb.

Through a land of trouble and anguish,
    from where come the lioness and the lion,
    the adder and the flying fiery serpent,
they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys,
    and their treasures on the humps of camels,
    to a people that cannot profit them.
⁷Egypt's help is worthless and empty;
    therefore I have called her
    “Rahab who sits still.”

A Rebellious People

⁸And now, go, write it before them on a tablet
    and inscribe it in a book,
that it may be for the time to come
    as a witness forever.
⁹For they are a rebellious people,
    lying children,
children unwilling to hear
    the instruction of the Lord;
¹⁰who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
    and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right;
speak to us smooth things,
    prophesy illusions,
¹¹leave the way, turn aside from the path,
    let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”
¹²Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,
“Because you despise this word
    and trust in oppression and perverseness
    and rely on them,
¹³therefore this iniquity shall be to you
    like a breach in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse,
    whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant;
¹⁴and its breaking is like that of a potter's vessel
    that is smashed so ruthlessly
that among its fragments not a shard is found
    with which to take fire from the hearth,
    or to dip up water out of the cistern.”

¹⁵For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
But you were unwilling, ¹⁶and you said,
“No! We will flee upon horses”;
    therefore you shall flee away;
and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”;
    therefore your pursuers shall be swift.
¹⁷A thousand shall flee at the threat of one;
    at the threat of five you shall flee,
till you are left
    like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain,
    like a signal on a hill.

The Lord Will Be Gracious

¹⁸Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you,
and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.

Each Christmas season, Northwest has the unique opportunity to invest in our neighbors at the Northwest Community Center with the Vickery Christmas Market! Refugee families have the opportunity to select a gift for their child and give back to their own community by donating an item to the food pantry. There are two different volunteer shifts to choose from with jobs for all ages and abilities!

‘Tis the season! Come spend an evening wrapping gifts as the NCC prepares for Vickery Christmas Market. Participate in an epic wrap battle and show off your mad skills. It’s a “gift” to wrap well, right? Bring your family and friends as we kick off Christmas festivities in Vickery Meadow!

Advent is a season of remembrance and waiting during the season leading up to Christmas Eve. This year our Advent theme is “Peace”. In a world that often feels overwhelmed with anxiety, we reflect on the profound peace that entered our world that first Christmas night. Many of us face lots of uncertainties about our country or the world at large. You're not alone in these feelings of anxiety, and that's why this Christmas season, we're exploring how Jesus, our Prince of Peace, meets us in our anxious moments.

SERVE ON CHRISTMAS EVE

Calling all Northwest Bible Church family! Our Christmas Eve services are a time of joyful celebration where we come together to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is also the season in which we receive the most visitors to our church. In order to serve them well, we need your help as we welcome guests to our church home!

Our vision at Northwest is that by 2026, we will be having thousands of surprisingly easy-to-start conversations about Jesus all over our city because we are convinced, where God has us is where Jesus is!

To create momentum around our vision, in 2022 we launched our Conversations Hub! This mobile website allows us to see exactly WHERE God has us all over our city to have conversations about Jesus and celebrate those together. We've LOVED getting to celebrate all of the conversations that are being pinned on the map throughout the week!

NCC | PERSPECTIVES CLASS

Tuesdays starting January 14, 6 – 9 PM | Northwest Community Center

Northwest is excited to offer the Perspectives course at the Northwest Community Center! Perspectives is a fifteen-lesson discipleship course exploring different aspects of God’s global purpose in a multi-faceted learning experience. The course examines the story of God fulfilling His promises from four vantage points or “perspectives” — Biblical, Historical, Cultural, and Strategic.

Grief Share is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Join us every Thursday evening from 6:30-8pm for a 13-week video curriculum and hear leaders share their own stories of grief and hope. This is a free, open group program that you can join at any time.

Where Do My Children Go?

No matter how old your children are, there is a place for them at Northwest! Sunday morning programs for Birth—5th Grade are available at both 9 and 10:35 a.m. Please come to the Children's Building on the west side of the campus (entrance facing the Tollway) and a volunteer will help get your family checked-in. If you are unable to join us on campus, we post Gospel Project lessons ONLINE each week!

Where Do Students Go?

Our students spend time together in a variety of ways with leaders who provide an environment where they will feel the love of God, hear the Word, and build relationships. On Sundays, students meet at 10:35 a.m. for worship and small group time in our Students area near the NW Highway entrance. Find more information on Middle School HERE and on High School HERE.
