August Ministry Updates | July 31, 2020

Listen to an important update from pastor Neil Tomba

Dear Northwest family –

In Colorado this month, I enjoyed some amazing time with family and got some much-needed rest. That being said, it’s so good to be back with you. I recognize that many of you are tired and struggling. As a church, we are praying that Jesus will meet your needs right now in a new way. Looking forward together, I have several exciting August updates to share with you.

First, we remain committed to reassessing our plan to regather for worship on campus once we’ve observed a two-week downward trend in cases of COVID-19 in our area. In the meantime, we will continue to meet online. I sincerely want to meet together for worship on campus and will keep you updated. In the meantime, find current updates on our website.

We have some exciting updates to our August preaching schedule!

    • Brian Lonergan, our Sports & Fitness Minister, is teaching this Sunday, August 2. He’ll share about Jesus’ great promise to his disciples in Matthew 28 – “I am with you.” Does that sound like “Where God Has Us is Where Jesus Is” to you? I encourage you to come together with us to hear this timely message!

    • I will begin our fall sermon series in James – “What Does Faith Do?” – on Sunday, August 16. I hope you received your James scripture journal in the mail from us this week! If not, let us know and we’ll be happy to mail one to you. You may have noticed that we originally planned to start the series this Sunday. So why the change? We have an amazing opportunity to be part of something on August 9 that God is doing across our city!

    • On Sunday, August 9, we will join with other local churches in focusing on Micah 6:8 through a city-wide day of unity and justice. I’ve been meeting virtually with a group of 30-40 local pastors over the past 4-5 months to pray. After I led prayer over Micah 6:8 several weeks ago, our group leaders decided that all of us would preach from this passage in our own churches on August 9. I hope you will join us that day and continue to pray for God to move.

God is doing something new in this season. I believe, along with these local pastors, that there’s a work God wants to do in us as individuals and in us as a church in the area of justice, and it’s a God-purified work that comes out of prayer. Let’s continue praying together in August through our Live Weekday Prayer at 12 p.m. on Facebook. Many of you have been faithful to continue praying through July, and Vela and I will be back leading in August. Let’s pray together for revival, justice, and unity in our city and our nation. If you haven’t joined us yet, this is your invitation!

Let’s talk about our Fall Semester kick-off!

Fall Semester will begin as scheduled on Wednesday, August 26. We have plenty of opportunities for you and your family to connect and grow with us this fall, and many of those will be on campus! Although we will not have Wednesday night dinners, we do plan to have our small groups meet on Wednesday night and Thursday mornings for those that would like to do so. More information will be announced next week through email and our website!

In closing, I want to encourage you that God is at work in hard times. We’ll talk about that through the book of James in a couple of weeks. I also want to encourage you to continue saying, “I want to live a life of desperate dependence on Jesus.”

Church, we love you, and we look forward to seeing you online Sunday and on campus this fall!

In Him,

Neil Tomba
Senior Pastor
