AFGHAN REFUGEE RELIEF
As the people of Afghanistan experience turmoil in their own country, many are seeking refuge in America.
We are partnering with our Northwest Community Center and Refugee Services of Texas to welcome these incoming Afghans as well as refugees who have already been resettled in Dallas.
The great news is that these new families are exactly why the Northwest Community Center exists. As the resettlement agencies are refugees' primary source of assistance during those first 90 days in the US, the Northwest Community Center walks alongside these families long after their government support ends to continuing to AID, EMPOWER, and INVITE refugees to new life in Jesus. We would love to have you serve at the Northwest Community Center and build relationships with new refugees, as well as refugees that are already here. Visit our Northwest Community Center page for information on all the programs we offer.
We are so grateful for an overwhelmingly positive response from Northwest and the community wanting to help and serve incoming Afghan families. Below is the next layer of steps for Northwest Bible Church and the Northwest Community Center as we welcome new neighbors and continue to help acclimate these families to Dallas.
Donating Household Items
A list of household supplies has been provided to us by Refugee Services of Texas to help with setting up apartments for incoming families. We have created a Signup Genius list here that you can look through the list and select item(s) to donate and drop off at the Northwest Community Center. As we have very limited storage space availability at the Center, we are only able to accept the listed items.
In partnership with Be Deliberate, volunteers from the Northwest Community Center will assist Nick and the Deliberate team with moving furniture and helping families get the larger home items to their apartments as they have need. If you are interested in working with us, fill out the interest form below and we'll add you to our list to reach out as we learn of specific family needs.
Airport Welcome & Resettlement Mentors- an RST volunteer opportunity
Refugee Services of Texas and International Rescue Committee are the main social service agencies we work with that resettle refugees to Vickery Meadow. To volunteer to welcome families at the airport or walk with these families through their first ninety days in the US, you can connect directly with Refugee Services of Texas for the proper training/background checks and be partnered with a family.
*Note- volunteer opportunities at RST are not affiliated directly with or organized by Northwest Community Center or Northwest Bible Church.
